Masoor Dal Chilla | Savory Red Lentil Pancakes

Masoor Dal Chilla are savory pancakes made from red lentils that are nutritious and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup masoor dal
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon oil (for cooking)
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 cup water (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Soak the masoor dal in water for at least 2 hours.
  2. Drain the water and blend the dal into a smooth batter.
  3. Add turmeric, cumin, salt, and red chili powder to the batter.
  4. Mix in the chopped onion and cilantro.
  5. Heat a non-stick skillet and add a little oil.
  6. Pour a ladleful of batter into the skillet and spread it out.
  7. Cook until the edges start to lift, then flip and cook the other side until golden brown.
  8. Repeat until all batter is used.

Notes

  • Serve hot with chutney or yogurt.
  • Adjust spiciness to taste.
